So my tattoo is healing nicely so far, but gosh it was really sore yesterday, the day after. Ouch! I could hardly walk you don't realise how much pressure you put on that area of your leg when you take a step. It was quite red too but I am making sure to look after it correctly because hey this is for life and I want it to keep looking good. It is less painful today though. I do have one problem though, Bubbaboo. Since he is a bum shuffler and decided that the best place to hang out is at my feet, he has to keep touching it. He is fascinated by it. I have spent the last two days doing dances around him as I see his grotty little fingers coming in for a poke. Of course he thinks this is really funny so continues to go for it to see my reaction. A few times he has done it without me noticing, ouch cheeky little bugger.
*******************************************************
I did forget to mention in Bubbaboos update that I was taking him to see another specialist for another opinion re: his plagiocephaly. It took a while to get into see someone.
Well that was today.... The appointment went well and it was suggested because his flat head is so bad, that we are going to try the helmet. We should get an appointment for his head to be measured up then get the helmet within the next couple of weeks. I was concerned that it may be too late as he is over 14 months old now, but the neurosurgeon said it is best to try it than not to do anything at all. And he is right, that is the way I feel also. I just wish it all happened sooner for numerous reasons, firstly because it would most likely have had better results faster and secondly now he has to wear the helmet through Summer. He is such a hot sweaty boy at the best of times, so this is just going to make him stinking hot. Hopefully he will adjust to it quickly. He needs to wear it for 23 hours a day but he can take it off when we go swimming or the beach and when he is in the sun, so that is ok. So my Bubbaboo is going to be a helmet head, it will all be worth it in the long term and if it doesn't work, well I can at least tell him that we tried.

Fun, Fun, Fun in the Sun.
And this is what I love about the weather getting warmer but what makes me the happiest is that Bubbaboo loves the beach. He would bum shuffle his way into the surf in a flash if I let him. He is a bit too confident in the water. I am looking forward to many more great days like today with my boy. We had a great day today, so I just had to share our precious moment.

Bubbaboo and My Mum- An Update.
Bubbaboo-
Is amazing. He has become a sponge and only has to see things done once and challenges himself to do the same. Even if they are things he isn't supposed to be doing like lifting the lid off the kitchen bin.
He is up and cruising the furniture and when he is down he is a bum shuffling pro. He is not interested in being on his knees and crawling at all. He scoots around at the speed of lightening and gets into things before you know it. I must take more video of him bum shuffling because it really is funny to watch. People comment on it all the time. I had never seen any other toddler do it before him but no doubt there are many.
Bubbaboo is really musical he loves to listen and sing along to music in the car. He used to want his ABC kids cds, not anymore, now he wants to listen to U2, Michael Franti & Spearhead and recently The John Butler Trio. He drums anything he can get his hands on including Max's drums and sings along. Max would be so very proud of him. He claps his hands instead of waving goodbye, he is a bit confused with that. I take him swimming every week and he loves it, I am so, so happy that he does. I am really looking forward to summer with him so we can do lots of swimming.
He has his 8 front teeth and one molar through and couple of others bulging ready to pop out. He hasn't been too bad with them really, he has been unsettled some nights and wants to bite anything he can get his teeth into including my cheeks! When I ask for a kiss. He doesn't say much but is constantly mumbling to himself. He understands a lot though, he can point out the duck in a picture book, point at his painting on the wall when I ask where it is and points to his Daddy's photos when I ask where Daddy is. That always breaks my heart. He has started really playing with his toys now, not just pulling them out of the toy bucket and finding joy in doing that. He rolls his wooden car back and forth making brrroom, brroom noises. He tries to put his wooden puzzles together mostly unsuccessfully but he tries. He is really stubborn and gets upset if he doesn't get his way. The word NO is still foreign to him. Apparently. He is starting to throw tantrums if I put him in his pram or carseat to leave somewhere he is having fun. Thankfully they don't last too long after a little distraction. I am sure there is more to update but can't think for the moment but I do know that Bubbaboo is my world, he makes my day, every day.
My Mum-
My Mum came out of hospital the week after Bubbaboos birthday. Her and my Dad have been staying at my sisters house until she got some strength back. They moved back home last week after we organised to get the all the aids fitted railing, detachable shower etc just like I did for Max. We also had the carpet stripped out of their bedroom, it really should have been done years ago. Her lung has fully collapsed now and she struggles breathing. She has oxygen at home and a portable cylinder for out and about. She still does too much but there is no way of stopping her at least now she we will have a lie down during the day and get some rest. Her infection comes and goes she has been on numerous antibiotics which seems to keep it at bay mostly. She has started to cough up blood the last few days she hadn't done that for a while. I know that always freaks her out, although her specialist isn't too concerned about it and thinks it's her esophagus that can get quite irritated from all the coughing she does. So for now she is stable and being looked after by a palliative care team and like any cancer patient it's one day at time.

The Great Outdoors
Thank you all for your love, hugs and thoughts. It was a particularly difficult day actually it has been a difficult week.
The weather is warming up and Summer is just around the corner. It is the the time of the year that Max and I enjoyed most. It was the time we did what we loved, got out there. Go to the beach, go on weekends away, go on photography excursions, have BBQ's and picnics and just enjoy each others company in the great outdoors. I know I am going to miss Max a lot more over Summer. I am sure there will be lots of reminiscing of good times had.
Bubbaboo loves being outdoors too and I am so grateful that he does. I want him to have a great relationship with nature. I love taking him out, I love letting him pick the flowers, dig his fingers in the dirt or the sand, feel the grass in his toes, watch the birds or just sit by the river. He is so observant and takes it all in. He learns so much from being out there in nature and the elements. I am looking forward to going camping with him and getting all that fresh air, getting all grubby and going to bed exhausted. We are very fortunate to live in a wonderful country filled with lots of natural beauty which allows us to enjoy it.
I am looking forward to my adventures with my Bubbaboo. I just wish Max was here to enjoy them too. Before we had Bubbaboo, Max and I often discussed where we would take our kids on holidays and adventures, we would both get excited just talking about it. I still intend to do a lot of them but now instead of the three of us it will just be the two of us.

Too Cute To Eat!
Thank you all for your birthday wishes. My day started off in tears, I miss Max so much. I put on his aftershave I wanted him to be with me all day and he was. Every time I got a whiff of his scent, it made me smile. I ended up having a lovely day, I went out for lunch with some family at a local club, put $5 in the pokies and lost it. Had some fun play with Bubbaboo in their ball pool. Then had dinner at my sisters place with my Mum and Dad where she had a great birthday cake for me. I am so lucky I have my boy and my family who always help me get through those challenging days.

I thought I would share some pics of what Bubbaoo got up to today. I love that he is such a hands on kid. He doesn't mind getting his hands dirty at all. Oh and of course he had to taste the paint which meant he ended up with red lipstick. Too cute!![]() |

AAAH! = HELLO!
My Bubbaboo is really friendly. I mean reeeeally friendly. He smiles at complete strangers and they all have to comment on his smile or his eyes. Well he does have a gorgeous but cheeky smile and his big blue eyes with long eyelashes are pretty amazing, ok maybe I am biased. But he demands attention from strangers, for eg. we walk into a shop and if he notices someone in there while I am doing whatever I have to do in the shop, he will yell out to them AAAH!. Which is his way of saying HELLO! and if he doesn't get their attention he will yell it at them over and over until he finally gets their attention. Once he gets their attention he gives them his cheeky smile. His mission accomplished. One time he was driving me nuts whilst waiting in a queue with his constant AAAH!, AAAH!, AAAH! I actually told the lady that was totally ignoring him that he was in fact saying hello to her just to shut him up, so she would say hello back and he would be happy. I must say it is pretty cute though. He does have the knack of getting the attention of the strangest people and I end having to have a chat to them when really I just want to get on with I need to do, instead I am left listening to a complete STRANGEr telling me about her, sisters, brother in law, dogs owner, neighbour, son how many teeth he had.
So when he gets their attention and they have said hello and acknowledged him, they usually ask two questions.
How old is he? and What's his name?
I am fine with them asking how old he is but what's his name? What's it to them ? It's not like they are ever going to see him again to call him by name. They usually comment and say what a wonderful name it is once I tell them... but I am never quite comfortable with telling them. I don't tell complete strangers my name, well come to think of it I don't tell them how old I am either. I have been thinking lately I may make up some bogus name for him for strangers, like Bubbaboo but then I thought I would have to stay and chat longer explaining where that name came from, perhaps I should call him John, nice and simple. I realise I can only do it for so long because once he understands and can say his own name well I am sure he will step in.
So I have two questions.
How do you feel about people asking you childs name?
Do you ask strangers children their name, knowing you will never see them again?

Bubbaboo's First Birthday
![]() |
| Wonderful cake that I helped a friend make for Bubbaboo's Party. |
He is One! My boy is one. I can't believe I have been a Mum for a year and I made it. There have been so many struggles but to focus on the positives it has been truly amazing, Bubbaboo is amazing! I adore that boy, there is so much love in my heart for him that it will explode and I know he loves me too. The first time he showed me that he loved me and wanted me was the evening of Max's funeral over 3 months ago. I was staying at my sisters and had lots of family around he was to go down for the night so to give me a rest everyone else was dealing with him but he wouldn't settle for them. It came to inconsolable screaming so I went in and gave him a cuddle and he fell straight to sleep in my arms with no fuss, he wanted me, his Mum. That's when he first showed me he loved me and he needed me, he couldn't have done it at a better time. Now he shows me in many ways, he extends his arms for a cuddle and gives me sloppy kisses on my cheeks or rests his forehead on mine as a kiss. He is constantly smiling and laughing and giggling, he makes me laugh every day which is just so precious to me and I thank him so much for it.
On Thursday, his actual birthday, after giving him loads of birthday kisses and cuddles, we went to visit my Mum in hospital. I took a small cake so we could celebrate with her. He had lots of nice Nonna time. Then I took him to the park on his new trike I bought him for his birthday, he loves it and says bbbrrrrrm when he is on it. I actually thought about Bubbaboos birth that day, the day he was born and how much joy he bought Max and I. The smile on Max's face was just priceless, a moment I will never forget. So that's what birthdays are really about hey, who would have thought. I didn't now that before now. I am forever grateful for giving birth to a beautiful live baby.

I just wish Max was here to witness his son growing into this wonderful little being. He would be just so proud.

Discovery
Thanks so much everyone for all your lovely comments on my friend C's post, it is very appreciated.
You all rock.
Bubbaboo and I discovered a new park not very far from home, right by the river. Actually Max and I had been there once before but sans children we didn't really appreciate what it had to offer. Yesterday we had a gorgoeus warm Winters day although very windy it was still screaming at us to get out in the sun. The park has a huge sandpit , a play area and water slide and a splash pool. I can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can take Bubbaboo for a real splash instead of just dunking his toes in. He loved it, he had his first real tantrum when we had to leave the park. I love that he loves the outdoors, that makes me so happy. He is learning and discovering so much, he just takes everything in and doesn't miss anything either. I love the way he studies things, simple things like picking up a dry leaf in the sand pit and brings it close to him, feels it, scrunches it, turns it left, turn it right till he is satisfied then he tosses it! He loves throwing things. He hasn't been in sand since he was 3 months old so he wouldn't remember it, so sand was very new to him. The grains of sand through his fingers and toes, he loved it.
I have heaps to say but I am feeling so tired at the moment. Emotionally and physically. I have a few big decisions to make which I am struggling with but I have too much happening in the next week or so, I have just had to brush the decision making aside. One of things happening is that my boy will be turning one! I just can't believe it. Firstly that I , ME, I have a son and secondly he will one!
Here are some pics of our day at the park with the my beautiful boy.

His Wonky Head
Bubbaboo CT scan results came back and all is fine, there is no fusion. Basically this specialist is saying just to leave it and his head should take shape, however it will never be perfect. His flat head is quite severe even the specialist said it was the worst case he had seen all year. I am not really happy with that. He didn't suggest any physio or any other options. I am concerned that Bubbaboo is going to have to deal with the stigma of a "wonky head" for the rest of his life.
I hadn't been too concerned before but something happened recently which made me think it could be worse. Bubbaboo is going to have enough things to deal with when he gets older, he doesn't need to be given a hard time because of the strange shape of his head.
We were at the park a couple of weeks ago playing on the play equipment and I was taking photos of him playing. There were two little girls about 8 or 9 hanging out on the equipment they were watching me take pics. Then one went off to play and the other continued to watch us. On the return of the friend the girl that had continued to watch said to the other." I know what's wrong with him he has a wonky head" Of course I pretended I didn't hear but I just wanted to cry. My poor little boy, that will be what he will have to deal with. People are already commenting and I am sure there are those that think there is something wrong with him but don't actually say anything. And I know kids can be really cruel. I remember being called Fatso or Big boobs at school and it scarred me, my confidence level was zero. I struggled with my self esteem right into my young adult life. I don't want that for him if I can avoid it.
So at this stage I am thinking of getting another opinion. I want to be able to tell Bubbaboo when he gets older that I did everything possible and know in my heart that I made the right decision and had all the possible options layed out in front of me, even if there are no options. I don't want him to come to me and say Mum why didn't you do this or that or whatever and hate me for it.

My Munchkin- update
Bubbaboo scan went as well as expected, although I don't have the results yet. He was tired and starving and really upset. He was meant fast from 7-3pm he woke at 5.30am so I gave him his bottle, he went back to sleep and I had to wake him at 6.30 to give him his breakfast but he wasn't interested at that time of the morning. So his last feed was at 5.30am. The childrens hospital really should reschedule the times of these scans for little ones, it makes more sense for them to have it done first thing in the morning.
They allowed me to go in with him whilst they gave him happy gas before hey gave him the anesthetic. It was so horrible to watch my boy go through that. The actually procedure didn't take long and he was awake and screaming after 20 minutes. The nurse told me it was normal for him to react that way and I believed her because I had just witnessed a little girl a week older than Bubbaboo coming out doing the same thing. Poor little Munchkins.
It was a really long day for all of us. Bubbaboo fell asleep in his pram whilst we waited out to make sure he wasn't going to have a reaction to the GA, but he was fine. He had half a bottle nice he settled down. So we came home I gave him a bottle, put him in his pj's on gave hm lots of cuddles and then straight to bed. He slept through the night, he hadn't done that for weeks. And he was fine all day yesterday and even slept through last night, so maybe the GA has shocked him back into his routine. He is really enjoying his sleep at the moment but I wont say that too loudly.

My Munchkin
Gosh so much is happening at the moment and I am frustrated that I can't sit at the computer for very long to write because of this stupid arm. I need to blog! I saw my Osteopath again today hopefully it will improve, it has improved a little but still quite sore.
So another quick post.
Bubbaboo is going to have a CT scan of his skull tomorrow under a general anesthetic to check out his flat head (Plagiocephaly), I am nervous for my munchkin. They need to make sure that his skull plates haven't fused together to allow for his brain to grow. I had to take him to the GP today to rule out any chest problems because he has had that stuffy/runny nose for almost 6 weeks now. We now think it may be an allergy I just need to find out what the allergy is from now. He got the go ahead from the GP so he is ok to have the anesthetic. We see the specialist on Friday with the results of the CT scan.
I am not looking forward to have him fast from 7am till 3pm, poor thing is going to be so hungry. I will have to try and keep him really occupied during that time.
Wish us luck!

My Little Bubbaboo
My little Bubbaboo is the reason I get out of bed of a morning. Even if it is way too early! I love him so much, he just makes me heart melt. Even though he has been sick and grumpy and very usettled with teething and a stuffy nose and not sleeping much of a night and at the moment fighting his day sleep too, I still love him. Even though lack of his sleep means lack of my sleep which makes me tired which makes me grumpy.
He is such a little character, he is really cheeky and has hundreds of expressions. He really tries to get away with things now and most of the time wins but I am working hard to no longer be defeated because this is where it starts if he thinks he has control of things now he will think he always has control! Ah ah!
He makes me laugh every day, he laughs and giggles all the time and is so happy, that is when he isn't sick or miserable with his teeth. He loves going out and he loves the outdoors. We can sit in the back yard for ages and he will just sit and listen and watch the birds, he loves them. He loves getting in the car, as it means we are going on an adventure even if it is to the post office. He does the stiff body thing when I have to put him back in the car which usually means we are going back home, so he tries to fight it.
He loves to play with is toys and listen to music and sing along. He isn't singing the words but he is singing in his lingo. He just makes me laugh listening to him. He doesn't say much no matter how many times I repeat Mamma, Duck and Ball, he just wont say it. His favourite word is Dadda dadda, which always breaks my hear but I don't think he really knows what it means. But he is a chatterbox and chatters away all day in baby lingo. He is really not interested in crawling or walking. He stands for a short period then plonks himself on his bum because it's too hard.
This morning whilst Bubbaboo had a very short sleep I was going through some files on my computer and found Max's Tribute DVD we played at his funeral. I hadn't watched it for over a month, so started to watch it and was getting emotional. Half way through it Bubbaboo woke up, so I went to get him, he always loves cuddles when he wakes and I love cuddling him. So I sat on the couch and gave him a cuddle and my tears started flowing and before I knew it I was sobbing with him in my arms. He just looked at me at first and laughed, then he noticed I didn't laugh and watched me cry then he put his hand to my face and wiped my tears. He is never gentle he is a a little rough guts, so this surprised me. Then he stared at the photo that was right behind my head on the mantle, a photo of him and his Daddy, then back at me then back at the photo, it's like he knew why I was upset. I told him that that was him with his Daddy and his Daddy loved him very much. Then he twisted his little body whilst still sitting on my lap, to stare at the other photo frame across the room, a photo of Max and I. Then looked back at the frame of him and his Daddy again. I wondered whether he was wondering where his Daddy was. And all this just made me sob even more. Then as I gave him a tighter cuddle, he pulled away and he whacked me in the face with his hand, I kid you not. Cheeky thing! That was more like him, my rough guts. I love him so much.
He is such a little character, he is really cheeky and has hundreds of expressions. He really tries to get away with things now and most of the time wins but I am working hard to no longer be defeated because this is where it starts if he thinks he has control of things now he will think he always has control! Ah ah!

Bubbaboo And My Mum. * With Update.
I thought I would update on Bubbaboo and other things going on around here. At 10 months he has 7 teeth and weighs 10.8kg and he is 74cm long. He is growing so very quickly. Yesterday we went to the park and he learnt to catch and throw a ball, clever boy.
He has been sick though, he caught my cold and has been really off the last couple of weeks. The last few days he has been totally off his solids lucky I can get him to take his bottles so manage to keep his fluids up. I am not sure if it's a combo of the cold and his teething. I am going to take him to the GP today just to rule out any throat of ear infection, because he loves his food and it is really unusual for him to reject it. He has been wanting lots and lots of cuddles of a night. He isn't too bad of a day but at night he just wants to sleep in my arms and as soon as I put him down he screams. So I am not getting much sleep either.
Last night whilst I was caressing his head I felt two little lumps at the back of his head. All I could think of were Max's cancer lumps, I felt sick to the stomach. I prayed and cried that they are nothing to be concerned of I couldn't bare it if there was something wrong with him. I will be showing the GP today, I can't stop worrying about them.
I can't remember if I have ever mentioned on my blog about Bubbaboos Plagiocephaly (flat head). It's pretty bad, I have had it looked at many times and the Paed thought it would right itself by now but at 10 months it hasn't. We have done the physio and the cranial osteo but nothing has helped it. I am concerned that it will affect his development. So he is booked in at the Cranialfacial clinic in a couple of weeks and we will take it from there.
My Mum is in hospital with pneumonia she hadn't been feeling well at all but my Mum being my Mum she always pushes herself to her limits. She will not let her cancer get the better of her. Max's death has hit her hard too, she realises how fortunate she has been to be fighting her cancer for over 13 years. She had a procedure done yesterday to have her stent cleaned out she isn't feeling the best today. I hope to visit her over the weekend, we have had to keep away because we didn't want her to catch our bugs. I am really over Dr's and hospitals.
I have been really struggling emotionally, I am missing Max more and more each day.
* Update
MrsSpock and MFAMama you are most likely right about the lumps although the GP couldn't feel them. I could definitely feel them last night! But she said that they were most likely lymph nodes due to his cold. Phew! And as for everything else it is just his cold virus and teething that he has to battle out. My poor boy.
